PACT Assault Carriers would have shit all over the Sunrider if it wasn't a protagonist vessel. Seriously, the Assault Carrier doctrine is literally just implemented first in the Sunrider because 'Oh hey, it's a gimmick, but it'll be useful for us because we can't afford to send fleets to patrol against pirates, so let's just have single, self-sufficient starships', and in the space of a few months, they've not only prototyped a superior vessel in terms of sheer specs and military effectiveness, but they've churned out enough of them to be relevant on the strategic scale. That it turns out Arcadius is literally a hivemind of hyperintelligent clones who can draw on the resources of "Wherever I decide to activate my sleeper agents" means that it's probably basically the same outcome. And if we couldn't kill the damn ship when we basically caught it with it's pants down and a whole fleet of purpose-picked ships designed for killing a superdreadnought, then it would have just fucked off, gotten repairs and upgrade from PACT's frankly insane industrial and R&D divisions, and then come back later on to win against another massive fleet at some point. If you really liked the waifu aspect there's also a spinoff, Sunrider Academy, which is more like a VN/dating sim with greatly enhanced production values (since it's a paid game and all), but I think some of the characters get kind of irritating when removed from the context of a war, and there's none of the tactical gameplay that made Mask of Arcadius enjoyable so unless you really like waifus, I can't recommend that one.īecause for one thing, I'm not omniscient, I'm going to assume that Arcadius got to keep it if we didn't shoot it down. Still, it's surprisingly good for a free indie game, and I'll probably end up buying Liberation Day, simply because MoA was pretty good for what it was. And some of the mechanics aren't well explained (ie units have armor which degrades the more they're shot.) And the hardest difficulty is so hard the devs aren't even sure it can be beaten. Mask of Arcadius is also incredibly hard unless you switch it to easy mode. The original third episode (Rebirth of the Holy Empire) is getting folded into the sequel. (EG almost anything involving Icari or Claude.) It also ends on a huge cliffhanger that won't be resolved until the sequel gets released, which is a paid for game called Liberation Day. Rushed at points, like there's certain scenes missing. The graphics are generally sprite based, though the art design is pretty coherent (ie you can tell at a glance who's ship or mecha belongs to which faction.) You can tell its story was. It's a free indie game, so its production values are not huge. Over the course of the story they do develop as characters, but someone with low tolerance for anime tropes might not like that part of the game even if there's no actual routes or anything ala a normal VN. Which means there's waifus, and they all start out as stock anime archetypes - Enthusiastic tomboy, shy waif, cold/emotionally distant waif, perverted doctor, tsundere, etc. It's a hybrid strategy/VN game in the vein of Sengoku Rance, albeit with much different strategic gameplay. It also gets points from me for providing a reasonable explanation for why there's so many waifus in space. There's also a lot of neat little touches - your unit voiceovers will react differently depending on how damaged they are, each weapon used gets its own voice over, etc. For a free indie game it has a lot of character, and the gameplay is reasonably deep. If anyones looking for a download link here it is, you can also get it off steam. Now the game does have some nudity but you have to download the nude patch to add that in You can choose certain dialogue options which effect the course of the game with your karma and character attitude changing depending on what you pick. This is what the non combat side of the game looks like, you talk with various characters in your ship like a Visual novel. There are a number of difficulties which range from 'Theres no way youll die' to 'Theres no way youll survive' When combat finishes you get money which you can spend on upgrading your units, buying new units or other such stuff The art styles nice, the stories enjoyable, the characters are mostly likable Its a free game and i think anyone whos interested in a game with a good story or Turn based combat should give it a try I started playing it about a week ago after my brother downloaded it and found it quite enjoyable įor people who havnt played it heres what the combat game play looks like, its turned base with a fair variety of units. Has anyone else been playing this? Its pretty good. 53 wishlist games found in available bundles.I cant find a thread about this so a thought id make one
